Dr. Sihler, a prominent member of the Simcoe community, and his family owned a large tract of land in town immediately adjacent to the Norfolk Golf and Country Club. The family estate was sold to VanEl Condominiums, who retained G. Douglas Vallee as the Civil Engineer and Land Use Planner for the Sihler Woods development. The project included a zoning and official plan amendment to the objection of several neighborhood members. Appeals were resolved and the project progressed as unique combination of standard plan of subdivision and vacant land condominium. Special regard was had for the natural heritage of the site, being a solid woodlot. Large portions of the site are wooded embankments, and these were protected. The development is strategically planned so that these wooded slopes are retained as heritage features and all units back onto wooded lands. This strategy takes full advantage of the natural environment that the development land possesses.
